When God speaks!

Jeremiah 33:3 KJV  “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”

What a privilege it has been! To think, that God would actually speak to me. He is the Sovereign of the universe; and yet, he speaks to ordinary people. I’m not special. I’m no better than the next person. I have faults and shortcomings just like everybody else. Many of them. I am painfully aware of the areas in my life that need improvement. And I’m still learning, still growing in grace.

The more that I study Jesus and the way that He lived His life on earth, the more I see my deficiencies. And still, in spite of this, God speaks to me. As I sit here alone, pondering these things, I feel overwhelmed, almost in a daze. Sometimes I feel a bit confused. I see people who, in my eyes, seem to be more advanced in their spiritual walk, have a greater command of Scripture, chapter and verse, and are more prominent in the public eye. Yet, God chooses to speak to me.

I don’t claim that He doesn’t speak to anyone else. That would be both prideful and untrue. But, in various periods in my life God has communicated to me. Oftentimes it’s through His Word. Other times it’s through encounters with different people under various circumstances. Then, there are the times when the Word itself speaks to me through my conscience. I value all the methods that God has chosen to reveal His will to me. But, there are those special times when I hear His voice directly. Still. Small. Audible. Instructing me in what I should do, and in which direction I should go.

There are also the many times that He wakes me up early in the morning to commune with Him, or to download what He wants me to communicate to His people. This happens often, either when I am preparing sermons, or when there is something special that God wants to reveal to me. This is what He did when He instructed me to write for Him, with the promise that many, as a result, will be awakened out of spiritual slumber, and won to the kingdom of His dear Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. This is the inspiration behind my very first book, The Soul Hunter: Overcoming a Ruthless Mastermind.

God spoke to me. Over the course of more than a year and a half, He spoke to me. He guided me. He downloaded His thoughts to me, and I wrote. I look at the completed work and still can hardly believe what it turned out to be. I’m humbled by the feedback that I have received from those who have read it. How lives are already being changed. Chains are being broken.

He spoke to me. He guided me. He led me. At times it’s overwhelming. I often wonder, “why did He choose me?” There are many others who are more worthy. Others who are more talented, more gifted. But for some reason, known only to Himself, God chose to speak to me. To give me a special task.

As I sit in contemplation of these things, of the love of God, all that I can do is to bow in humble, heartfelt gratitude and say, “Thank you, Lord.”

I've always believed that words have the power to change hearts, challenge minds, awaken forgotten sensibilities that lie deep within us, and inspre us to reach the lofty spiritual heights that God has ordained for us all. I write because I fell the need to wrestle with the hard questions of faith and identity in Jesus Christ. I write because I seek to unveil and examine the unseen battles we all face, especially the ones that are not commonly discussed but leave deep marks on the soul.
