"Healing in 3 words"

Proverbs 16:24 KJV – “Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.”

It has been on your mind for weeks now.

A bitter disagreement.

Stinging words.

Harsh tones.

Some things that were mentioned...

were true...

but hurtful.

But did you have to mention it then?

There?

In that manner?

Was it truly necessary?

Other things just “came out”

in the heat of the moment.

Was there truth to them?

Or was it simply a way to justify yourself

and deflect?

Thinking about it in retrospect,

the argument doesn’t make much sense.

It didn’t need to go that far.

But it did.

The damage is done.

And the mental replay button keeps getting pushed ––

over and over,

again and again.

Anger has settled in.

Bitterness has taken root.

The mere mention of the person’s name

brings on a torrent of memories

that cause the heart to ache ––

that bring unrest to the mind.

Then...

The phone lights up.

A name appears.

Knots form in the stomach.

Apprehension seizes the soul.

You answer the phone.

Or read the text.

And you are greeted

with three…

simple…

words:

“I'm so sorry.”

“Can we talk?”

“Please forgive me.”

“I love you.”

“I miss you.”

“How are you?”

“Thinking about you.”

“Praying for you.”

“God bless you.”

And the most challenging of all:

“I forgive you.”

Your heart is warmed.

Your guard comes down.

And for the first time,

in a long time,

You begin to experience …

Peace.

This is the first critical step

toward meaningful conversation.

Toward tangible reconciliation.

And it all began

with a little humility.

And three…

simple…

words.

I've always believed that words have the power to change hearts, challenge minds, awaken forgotten sensibilities that lie deep within us, and inspre us to reach the lofty spiritual heights that God has ordained for us all. I write because I fell the need to wrestle with the hard questions of faith and identity in Jesus Christ. I write because I seek to unveil and examine the unseen battles we all face, especially the ones that are not commonly discussed but leave deep marks on the soul.
